Regulatory Updates
CIHI (Canadian Institute for Health Information)
Upcoming Release of Clinical Assessment Protocols (CAPs) - March 2008

The Update
After further research by interRAI, input from key stakeholders and consultation with CIHI, preparations to have CIHI release a replacement for the Resident Assessment Protocols (RAPs) are underway.

Known as the CAPs, or Clinical Assessment Protocols, these key care areas have been standardized across a number of interRAI instruments (Home Care, Long-Term Care, Assisted Living and Community Health) thereby providing a new consistency to the provision of care across the continuum. With these changes, fewer triggers will be required, the predictive value has been improved, and the need for one set of protocols across all instruments will aid in increased consistency.
