F tag 373 for Paid Feeding Assistants

The Update
The advance copy of the new F Tag 373 for Paid Feeding Assistants was released last Friday, August 10, 2007 and goes into effect on September 28th of this year. The intent of F373 is to ensure that if paid feeding assistants are to be utilized in a facility, that all of the following are in place:
1. All paid feeding assistants are properly trained by a state approved training program that is a minimum of eight (8) hours.
2. Documentation of the training is maintained on each individual assistant
3. Assistants are adequately supervised by licensed nursing staff
4. Only residents without complicated feeding problems are assisted by the paid feeding assistant
5. The residents receive assistance from the paid feeding assistant that is consistent with their individual needs and follow the plan of care.
